rest: my elusive mistress.

i find that being truly well-rested is an achievement not often met. this is not to say that i'm always walking around like an overtired zombie, but i find the times where i can claim to honestly be energized and not at all tired are quite rare. i also find that my periods of being wide-awake and being totally exhausted are coming 'round at THE MOST incovenient of times, like 2am and in the middle of a work day, respectively. like, the other night (tuesday, i believe it was) i was WIDE AWAKE hours after i'd usually go to bed, and i had to be awake at 6:30am to take a test at 8. well, my sorry ass didn't get to bed until 4:30am, and didn't go to bed again until about 5:30am the next morning. and even though i slept in yesterday, my ass was TIIIRED this afternoon! and now i'm home, and awake, only 30 minutes away from my self-appointed "bedtime". truth be told, i was hoping to be in bed a couple hours ago, but again...i'm awake.

in any case, i decided to use this awake-ness to do something productive, like make playlists for my friends seth & jill odell. seth has claimed to be "out of the loop" when it comes to music these days and has requested that i make him some mixes to reconnect him to the 21st century.

in other news, i got to leave work early today because it was pretty dead- odd, since it was a stunningly gorgeous day. but, i did get to make not one, but two trips to the 2nd Ave Whole Foods today: once to get lunch for my asst. manager christine (she couldn't leave because she was the only supervisor working today), and the second time i went after work to do some grocery shopping. inspired by the very basic principles of alicia silverstone's advice in her book, The Kind Diet, i've decided to start revamping my diet. the main ideas are to be "kind" to your body, and to stick to "whole" foods. the more "whole" the food, the better it is for you. it's when we start eating all sorts of processed crap that our bodies start gaining weight and feeling gross; it's purely logical that the more pure food we eat, the better off we are. also, when you eat better food, your body is more satiated, you eat less, and your body is more able to find and maintain a comfortable weight, in contrast to all the "low sugar" "low fat" "low carb" substitutions for the crap we shouldn't really be eating in the first place that our bodies have troubles processing, thus damning us to a shitty cycle of crazed diet and exercise. doesn't it make more sense to just eat healthy food, move our bodies as we choose while we still are virile enough to do so, and NOT drive ourselves totally bananas (mm, bananas...) trying to say "healthy" and "in shape"?

i could really go on forever as a healthy diet has been a main part of my upbringing my whole life (despite the sweet tooth i unfortunately inherited from both sides of my family), but i'll close up with saying that i really like food and eating it frequently, and the only way i think i can continue to do so is by eating really healthy and delicious stuff. starving myself sucks, eating crappy food sucks, so i feel this is a really positive alternative and a good lifestyle to pursue. so, i went grocery shopping for some things so i could prepare myself some delicious healthy foods in bulk so i have food to eat for lunch and dinner, thus saving me money by not having to buy food out, and also keeping me on track.

oh also, i don't want to look like a bloated beluga when i go to Mexico.

OOH 10 minutes 'til my bedtime! looks like i'll be forcing sleep tonight.
