The Law of Fuck Yes or No

My pal Ashley posted this article on FB regarding how we ("we" being anyone with an ounce of self worth or self respect) should be handling relationships, romantic or otherwise. It was so well written and on point that I figured I'd just post a link to it here (and also copy and past it so that my post doesn't look so empty). I take no credit for this, it was written by the brilliant Mark Manson . Take a minute to read this and see if maybe there aren't some behaviors of your own that you could modify to better serve your own relationships (I know I sure as shit could...)   Think about this for a moment: Why would you ever choose to be with someone who is not excited to be with you?  There’s a grey area in dating many people get hung up on — a grey area where feelings are ambiguous or one person has stronger feelings than the other. This grey area causes real, tangible issues. As a man, a huge question is often whether to be persistent and continue pu...

It was fear of myself that made me odd.

I spent most weekends during February 7-June 7, 2015 training with a well-known YogaWorks yoga teacher named Carolina Goldberg to complete my 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training and become a certified yoga teacher myself. I had been practicing yoga consistently for about 2 1/2 years at that point and had a previous revelation about my purpose in life whilst having a quarter-life crisis regarding "what i wanted to be when i grew up."    Anyway, I had a rough end to my summer upon the realization that none of my close friends live close to me anymore. I was desperate for friendship and attention and fell off the wagon with my physical and mental health. I was basically on a bender of bad choices for August-September. I was having a good time and I thought I was happy but what I didn't realize was I was backsliding into old familiar, unhealthy territory, all in the wake of what was arguably the most healthy and admirable thing I've done in my life. I'm still trying to ...

"Shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel." -James Taylor

This morning I received some awful, tragic, devastating news. My younger sister’s good friend suddenly passed away on Tuesday. He was 27-years-old. We’ve known Robert for years. He’s the younger brother of someone I was very good friends with in high school and part of my sister’s very tight knit crew. He had previously lived in NYC and recently moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in “the industry”. Prior to him moving to his new apartment in Santa Monica, he was staying on our couch while he looked for a place to live. He was an excellent house guest and always a pleasure to have around. I am so mad. I’m so goddamn angry about this. This isn’t supposed to happen, 27-year-old men aren’t supposed to just NOT WAKE UP. Julia wasn’t supposed to lose her younger brother when she’s got a son who needs an uncle. His parents aren’t meant to bury their 2 nd eldest child. Jesse is supposed to have an older brother to look up to. My sister isn’t supposed to be mourning the los...

Repentance, Gratitude, and Courage: Let Us Always Try.

Today is the Autumnal equinox as well as Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is the most important day in the Jewish calendar, revered as a time for repentance, forgiveness, and starting fresh in a new year. The Autumnal Equinox is the balance between night and day, also a “new year” of sorts as it marks the end of the harvest and the time where we, the creatures of earth, start to settle in and bundle up for the cooler, then colder, months of the year before Spring springs again.    Today is also the most balanced day of the year: equal hours of day and night. Pagans and other “naturalists”, we’ll call them, often spend this day staying up all night to greet Autumn. They also suggest that if you can't stay up all night, stay up until midnight- that I can do. Maybe with a whiskey in hand. Probably with a whiskey in hand. At a bar. I think maybe I’ll go to the bar tonight, I'm having a pretty good hair day.    This is the first time since 1901 that Yom ...

Love is weird.

9/20: That's all I've got for now. Will elaborate later. 9/21: Ok, it's later now, and I'm still kinda struggling to elaborate on what I wanted to say, or why I even said that in the first place. I think I saw a blog prompt at The Daily Post or something that was like "you can love lots of things, talk about it" and the first thing that came to my mind was that it's fucking weird. Weirdy weird weird.    I mean think about it- is there really any rhyme or reason why we love the things we love? Why certain things make us feel the way we feel about them? I'm sure there's a science to it (pheromones and whatnot, things hardwired into our brain by nature or generations of breeding, etc...), but like, why do we LIKE our Sketchers but LOVE our Prada backpack?* I'm sure there's someone out there who LOVES their Sketchers, ya know? So why do we love the things we love? Really what I'm getting at is, why do we love the people we love? ...
